![]() ![]() But for a surprisingly good all-rounder that offers exceptional comfort for ultra distances, the Hoka is a top performer. But while the Speedgoat has converted many skeptics to the max-cushioned world, it’s not for everyone: The tall stack height lacks the precision of a low-slung build like Hoka’s Zinal (below), and those taking on shorter distances at speed will likely want a less cushioned, more responsive design. The midsole is also a bit softer and lighter, which is good news for most runners-although some have found it to lack stability compared to previous iterations. The biggest changes were to the upper, which features stretchy engineered mesh without the overlays of the outgoing 4, translating to a closer fit with slightly less weight and bulk. The fifth version of the Speedgoat is a pretty serious overhaul from the previous model, but the new shoe retains all the performance characteristics we love. Tack on a medium-width toe box that fits a broad range of foot shapes, and it’s no secret why Speedgoat is one of the most well-loved running shoes of 2023. The aggressive outsole is light but sticky with substantial lugs (improved in the most recent version), blown rubber, and a Vibram Megagrip compound that holds well on everything from dry dirt and mud to steep rock. But there’s a lot more to love about the design: In our opinion, the Speedgoat hits a near-ideal balance of comfort, weight, protection, and responsiveness whether you’re running short or far, fast or slow. With a thick midsole (33mm at the heel), the shoe offers maximum long-distance comfort and underfoot protection, absorbing a nice amount of impact with each stride. Hoka has built their reputation around plush, heavily cushioned running shoes, and the freshly updated Speedgoat 5 is a nice upgrade to the popular design. What we don’t: Thick midsole minimizes trail feel in technical sections. What we like: Standout comfort and traction in a lightweight package. See the Men's Salomon Sense Ride 5 See the Women's Salomon Sense Ride 5īest Max-Cushioned Trail Running Shoe 2. And in an era when many trail runners are creeping close to $200, it’s also a solid value at $140. But for a versatile trainer and adventure shoe that can handle most trails with aplomb, the Sense Ride 5 is one of the most well-rounded designs we’ve tried. Further, runners focused on speed will want a more precise and responsive runner like the Catamount or Zinal. Held up against specialists like the Speedcross and Ultra Raptor II below, you give up a bit of grip and ground feel for challenging terrain, and the Sense Ride is not as soft and lightweight as a max-cushioned shoe like the Speedgoat. We’ve put over 700 miles on various iterations of the Sense Ride, and the “5”-which features a softer midsole and more durable outsole compared to the outgoing model-is a consistently comfortable and high performance shoe for a wide variety of terrain.īut while the Sense Ride 5 is good at everything, it’s not necessarily a top performer in any specific category. ![]() The all-around performance isn’t surprising given the Salomon’s versatile design, which features a moderate amount of cushioning (29.6mm in the heel), generously sized toe box, fairly standard 8-millimeter drop, and full Contragrip rubber outsole. This shoe is equally at home on quick door-to-trail runs as it is during ultra-distance pursuits, and can even handle technical cross-country terrain with ease. What we don’t: Not a top performer in any one category.įor a trail runner that can do it all, we love the Salomon Sense Ride 5. Returning to Yuna’s narrative, it can be said that she is the only one who focuses on actively changing herself. Minyoung prances on the streets alone, roller skates beside a pool (a reference to “ Pool Party”) and jams on her guitar. Yujeong dances happily in an empty burger restaurant. On the other hand, when not reminiscing about their ex-lover, alcohol grants them momentary happiness through the night. You’re so bad, you know how much I’ll struggle without you At other times, Yuna blankly stares while confetti falls on her, signalling that she is still heartbroken.īut how can I forget all the days & nights we’ve had This scene in particular draws a parallel to two separate but related instances - One, drinking can change people into someone they won’t recognise, and two, how love and heartbreaks can also change someone. Yuna soon realises that crafting a new facade will not change her on the inside if she is not true to herself to begin with. Plagued by grief, this marks her attempt at a new start through crafting a new image. Yet, she stands there with a deadpan expression as she removes her orange wig that clearly does not fit her. She enters a karaoke room, a place reminiscent of happier times. ![]() In comparison, Yuna’s arc is particularly interesting as she lacks that balance. In the first half of the MV, the other members have somewhat of a balance between happy and sad scenes. When I open my eyes, I’m filled with regret I don’t remember, it’s what happens when I get drunk Barred from the ability to think rationally, their regret sinks in belatedly. They miss the idea of being in a relationship as the feeling of loss is suddenly but intensely felt. Right off the bat, they confess that alcohol grants them the courage to call their ex lover. Minyoung appears despairingly in the same outfit in a bar, with a drink in hand.ĭiving deeper, while looking back at their failed relationship causes their lows, alcohol manipulates their emotions, causing them to feel deceptively happy. Not long after, the nonlinearity of grief hits hard. ![]() In one scene, Minyoung and Eunji appear tipsy and are walking together in joy. One moment they appear happy, the next, they are not. Similarly, this mimics the overwhelming speed in which one can experience ups and downs while high on alcohol. In case I annoy you, I hesitated hundreds of times with this phone callįollowing the rhythm of the track, the MV opens with a fast-forwarded montage exhibiting the multiplicity of emotions that one feels after a breakup. And of course, it is not alcohol without experiencing its effects. From Eunji sipping on a glass of wine, to Yujeong downing a bottle of beer, they drink it all. Throughout the MV, Brave Girls find comfort in various types of alcohol. Essentially, they try to drink the pain away. With the Korean title aptly being 술버릇 (drinking habit), the MV tells a story of how the break up has affected Brave Girls to the point where they develop a self-destructive drinking habit. At the very most, we get Minyoung and Eunji walking together at the dead hours of the night on an overpass. Aside from that, they are alone. In other words, this is telling of an important message: grief is personal. With that, the MV is void of a group shot as they deal with their post breakup miseries individually. The quartet spend most of their time alone trying to untangle their own emotional knots. ![]() At times like this, the setting cleverly reflects their inner feelings of loneliness, blurring the line between feeling okay and not okay. In doing so, it alludes to the fact that grief creeps up on them at the darkest hours of the day. This is marked by Yuna and Minyoung’s opening scenes, the only ones captured in almost broad daylight. The entire narrative takes place between the early hours of the night till the break of dawn. The critical use of time here is highly noteworthy as shown through these carefully selected sets. They appear in dimly lit places, namely a karaoke room, a bar, a washroom, a burger restaurant, on a rooftop, and in an open car park. In doing so, they experience a range of emotions: alienation, grief, and anger, but also happiness and liberation.Ī distinct change from their last few MVs, Brave Girls trudge through a handful of scenes in “After We Ride”. Though they are way past their teenage years, Brave Girls embark on an emotional journey to piece themselves back together after calling it quits. Upon first look, the MV seems to mirror a coming-of-age film. You may have to select a menu option or click a button. Apparently a fix is on the way, i will still contact Microsoft for a return label and if the fix is there before the label expires and fixes the issue i might keep it. Not bad sounding headphones but not ideal for competitive shooters.Įdit. Still contemplating whether I return these. So in short mic monitoring function - garbage.Ī bit of a deal breaker I have to say, for me personally, as I use headsets primarily when playing first person shooters and would ideally not like to shout constantly - hence mic monitoring would be nice. I tried this by pulling the mic towards my mouth ( at which point obviously the ear cup is no longer sitting on your left ear) the monitoring did trigger and I could hear myself. It never will be in front of your mouth so the mic monitoring never gets triggered. Out of the box Arctis is the better headset for competitive shooters.Īlso the mic monitoring function is useless! I was wondering why I was shouting when I had the mic monitoring on high. The EQ needs a 80 or 60 hz slider as well. Regarding the sound I do feel I prefer the Arctis for competitive shooters, the Xbox headset has too much bass, and when I turn the lower frequency down (125 hz) on the EQ the sound becomes weird and a bit hollow. This had been the selling point for me for a preorder. And I like the volume party chat/game sound dials. The connection with the Xbox is flawless. For some games the sound is great but for shooting games specifically I am having trouble finding a sweet spot (if it has one). Also gets very loud, too loud in my opinion to the point of distortion and destroying your hearing. It definitely has a fuller sound than the Arctis headset for instance. I have mixed feelings about this Xbox headset. I left the following review elsewhere: not one bit happy with the mic monitoring, I think I will be returning mine and getting the Arctis 7x. Hope this fixes your problem with the monitoring too guys! ![]() You’ll hear a tone and the power light will rapidly flicker orange and white when the hard reset occurs.ģ.After hard resetting I kept the USB Cable connected to the console and performed another firmware update via the accessory app.įor now it’s working for me. ![]() You’ve got some serious options when it comes to meeting your daily recommended intake of 2-3 cups per day. So, it won’t be beating out kale or spinach any time soon…but it’s nothing to feel guilty about. And with its high water content, it’s actually an awesome hydrating food to eat in hot weather or after a workout. Iceberg still contains fibre, potassium, zinc, calcium, folate and vitamins A and K. This much-maligned green doesn’t come close to the other lettuces on this list, but it’s still far from a nutritional vacuum. Isn’t iceberg totally devoid of nutritional value? Well, yes and no. ![]() You’re probably surprised to see this crunchy, watery lettuce on the list. For a healthier salad, just mix it up with a handful of spinach and you’re good to go. While it’s not as nutritionally dense as kale or spinach, this zippy green still comes loaded with a healthy dose of calcium, antioxidants and fibre. With its frilly leaves and peppery flavour, arugula is a fun and tasty option for mixing things up. While you get the best of these benefits eating it raw, spinach is also wonderful mixed into just about any warm dish, from scrambled eggs to soups and stews. It’s higher than kale in calcium, potassium, magnesium, folate and vitamins A and K, while staying relatively high in fibre and low in calories. If there is such a thing as a perfect green, spinach is just about as close as it gets. That said, kale is lower in some nutrients than other greens, so it’s still best to mix it up every once in a while. ![]() Just one cup of kale contains more than your daily requirement for vitamins A, C and K – and comes with over 3 grams of protein, making it a super smart choice for people following a plant-based diet. No surprises here…kale is a nutritional powerhouse, packed with nutritional benefits. We just recommend you mix it up with a darker green every once in a while. And with its grassy flavour and delicate texture, it pairs beautifully with just about any fruit or veggie. With twice the vitamin C of romaine and next to no calories, green leaf lettuce might not be the most nutritionally dense salad green around, but it will definitely bring benefits to your bowl. Plus, it’s higher in potassium than kale. But it’s bringing more to the table than its culinary benefits – romaine lettuce is also a solid source of vitamin A, vitamin K and folate. One of the most popular salad greens around, we love romaine for its crunchy texture and mild, sweet taste. So how do different lettuces and greens stack up? Here’s a handy guide to get you started. That’s why our salads almost always use a blend of 2-3 different greens as a base. To get the most out of your salads, it’s best to use more than one type of green, so you get a mix of health benefits. So now you’re probably wondering…which green reigns supreme? The fact is, no lettuce ranks highest across the board – each one brings something different to the table. Why? Darker leaves can absorb more sunlight, which allows them to synthesize more vitamins. If you’re looking to get the most out of your salad, here’s a pretty good rule of thumb: the darker the leaves, the more nutritious the green. But believe it or not, the nutritional content in your bowl can vary pretty widely depending on which greens you choose. When it comes to fibre, vitamins and minerals, raw veggies simply can’t be beat. ![]() If you’ve read anything about nutrition, you already know salad is one of the healthiest meals you can eat. ![]() But the way Techland implements these ideas instead makes the parkour far less enjoyable. Logically, all of this should facilitate more immersive free-running. Most importantly of all, there are fewer seams in the parkour’s move-set, with animations designed to link elegantly together for a smoother experience. ![]() The environment is also built to better suit free-running, with the player able to utilise objects like rope-swings, ziplines, and pipes that you can slide down to reach the ground. It adds a bunch of additional abilities to the player’s skillset, like wall-running, dashes, and even a double-jump (which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but then again, it is a game with zombies in it). On paper, Dying Light 2 does much to improve upon the first game’s parkour. Dying Light‘s combination of free-running and zombie survival put the game on the map, and having a whole new city to parkour across was key to the appeal of the sequel. Even the day/night juxtaposition, fundamental to the point it’s alluded to in the game’s title, is rendered insignificant by the game’s peculiar structure.īut the game’s most notable flaws are found in its parkour, the acrobatic movement system that lets players leap, roll, and climb across the rooftops of Villedor to evade the city’s zombie hordes. The evolving cityscape that Techland hyped up prior to release is way less involved than what the studio promised. READ MORE: ‘Dying Light 2 Stay Human’ review: undead, not loving it.By far the highest-profile disappointment of this year is Dying Light 2, Techland‘s free-running, zombie-bashing sequel that simply fails to live up to the fun of the original. Adele Astaire was eight years old and Fred only five. The family set off by rail for the East Coast in January 1905. When the school’s owner informed the Austerlitzes that their children were true dance prodigies, Johanna was permitted to bring them to live in New York City, where top-flight instruction might lead to a professional career. In time, the distinct and complimentary natures of the Astaire children would make them ideal dance partners, with Adele emerging as the carefree, improvisatory partner and Fred the perfectionist and innovator. Initially, young Fred resisted the discipline of dance instruction to which his older sister Adele had taken more naturally. The son of Austrian immigrant Frederic "Fritz" Austerlitz and his second generation Prussian-American wife Johanna "Ann" Geilus, Astaire developed into a frail and deeply serious boy, whom his mother urged into dancing classes at the local Chambers Dance Academy with the hope that he might build a more athletic physique. Nominated for Academy Awards for his dramatic work in Stanley Kramer’s "On the Beach" (1959) and Irwin Allen’s "The Towering Inferno" (1974), an aging Astaire rode out the final third of his brilliant career as the elder statesman of American song and dance, who British writer Graham Greene called "the nearest approach we are ever likely to have to a human Mickey Mouse."įred Astaire was born Frederick Austerlitz on in Omaha, NE. Coaxed out of retirement for MGM’s "Easter Parade" (1948), Astaire went on to headline "Royal Wedding" (1951), in which he danced seemingly weightless on walls and ceilings, and "The Band Wagon" (1953) with Cyd Charisse. In later years, Astaire would take to the dance floor with a number of new partners, among them Eleanor Powell and Rita Hayworth, while also playing second banana to crooner Bing Crosby in the musical comedies "Holiday Inn" (1942) and "Blue Skies" (1946). The Astaire-Rogers films proved a tonic for an anxious nation during the Great Depression. ![]() A self-punishing perfectionist, Astaire hid his torturous process behind a mask of suave self-composure, playing the sardonic American graced with a distinctly European sensuality. After Adele’s retirement in 1931, Astaire tried his luck in Hollywood, pairing with Ginger Rogers at RKO for a total of 10 films, including "Top Hat" (1935), "Follow the Fleet" (1936) and "Shall We Dance?" (1937). With his older sister and dance partner Adele, vaudeville performer Fred Astaire became the toast of Broadway during the Jazz Age while partnering with composers George and Ira Gershwin to redefine American musical theatre. |
